Jennings called up by The Puerto Rico Women’s National Team for U-17 World Cup Qualifiers!

For Immediate Release;

Mikaela Jennings received an official invitation on April 2, 2018 from the Federacion Puertorriquena de Futbol (Puerto Rico Soccer Federation) to join the Puerto Rico Women’s Under 17 National Team where she will compete in the 2018 CONCACAF Women’s Under 17 Qualifiers – the final round to qualify for the 2018 World Cup. Jennings departs from New York on April 9th and will report to the Puerto Rico National team for training camp and official matches.

Jennings plays not only for her premier club, NYXFC, but also for her high school team, Kennedy Catholic HS in Somers, NY. Head coach and President of NYXFC, Chris Lyn, received the exciting news on Monday regarding Jennings selection.

Mikaela plays on one of a number of NYXFC teams that compete at local, national and international levels.

Mikaela is fortunate to be surrounded by many talented student athletes on her NYXFC club team with similar achievements. On Jennings’ current NYXFC club team are players who have competed for their respective national teams including Israel, Portugal, Jamaica, Ecuador, and Ireland.

Jennings continues to compete in various collegiate showcase tournaments including the San Diego SURF CUP tournament in California, premier leagues and New York State Cup competitions. Over the years Jennings has also been selected to teams such as NYSCL’s PDP (Player Development Program) and ODP (Olympic Development Program).

This is not Mikaela’s first appearance with her national team. Jennings has 6 CAPs (appearances) for the Puerto Rico National Team in recent CONCACAF competitions.  She scored her first goal for Puerto Rico in the 1st round of the Caribbean Qualifiers tournament. Puerto Rico won against Dominican Republic, Bahamas and Anguilla, advancing them to the 2nd round of the Caribbean Qualifiers held in Haiti.

In Haiti, Puerto Rico played against Haiti, Cuba and Jamaica giving Puerto Rico, for the first time in history, one of the three slots to advance to The CONCACAF Championships.

The CONCACAF Championships will take place April 19th – 30th and will determine which three teams will advance to the 2018 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup finals held in Uruguay, November 13th – December 1st. North Korea are the current defending champions.

Please join us as we wish Mikaela the best of luck on what is hopefully a long and exciting soccer career and journey!
